| What if Your Father or Mother has Sciatica?
If you are worried that your mother or father has sciatica due to constant complaints of pain in the lower
regions of the back, there are various ways in which you could find out and treat if necessary. Sciatica is a pain
causing symptom of a disruption with the sciatic nerve and is most likely to appear in older adults. As for some
individuals it can be minor, though others may encounter severe and chronic attacks that are quite a nuisance
disrupting life completely. Older adults are not the only people prone to sciatica as younger adults, especially
woman that are pregnant can experience severe sciatica. If trauma to the spine or any area of the sciatic nerve
location is experienced, sciatica can be a long lasting result.

How Sciatica is Diagnosed
As leg pain is the most common symptom of sciatica, many individuals first
diagnose the problem as an issue with their legs. There is another condition that is commonly mistaken for sciatica
and vice versa, Piriformis syndrome, which causes pain quite like sciatica as it involves the piriformis muscle
tightening and irritating the sciatic nerve. Arthritis is also quite commonly confused with sciatica as the feeling
may be quite the same to some; however the pain is quite different. Sciatica causes sharp
shooting pain while arthritis causes more dull and achy pain that is hard to pinpoint.
Is Sciatica Genetic?
Even if your mother or father has sciatica, or even if their
mother and father were ailed with the condition, you are at no greater of a risk for it. There have been several
studies proving this as it has been thought to be a genetic disorder. The diseases and disorders that may cause
sciatica may be genetic, however that also does not mean you will get the condition yourself.
How to Seek Treatment for Sciatica
Sciatica must first be properly diagnosed in order to receive the proper treatment. This is your responsibility by
giving the health care provider the accurate description of your symptoms. This may be a quite embarrassing thing
for some as sciatica can literally cause a pain in your rear, however, appropriate treatment is necessary and may
be critical, depending on the severity of your condition. There are some onsets of sciatica that can be quite
debilitating. If your mom has sciatica or your dad is suffering from sciatic pain, you may want to allow
them plenty of rest while seeking some sort of physical therapy to ease the pain.
